Discover...Science for Non-Scientists

Each month during South Bend's 150th birthday, a theme draws attention to different aspects of the city's past, present, and future. In February 2015, science takes center stage. The showcase event is the SB150 Discover...Science celebration at the Kroc Center on Saturday, February 21, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.

Among the exhibits will be telescopes and current astronomy outreach from Michiana Astronomical Society Inc., AstroCamp, and SB150 Young Astronomers. I invite you to join me as we share our enthusiasm for astronomy, from which so much other science has evolved. Please contact me if you can help staff a table of activities or a telescope at the Kroc Center (map). It'll be fun, no matter what side of the table you are on. A welcoming handbill notes, "Best appreciated by ages 12+. All welcome, especially non-scientists."

If you want a sneek peak at local astronomy from my perspective, join the community conversation Monday, Feb. 16, at the PHM Digital Video Theater. Let's talk about and do astronomy in the context of two celebrations: SB150 and 2015IYL.
