Plant a Tree, Catch Some Sun

The St. Pius X Creation Care Team is hosting a double-header of events around Earth Day to promote care of our common home. Please come out before or after certain Masses on April 21 and 22 to plant your own tree and to learn about solar panels. It all happens on the edges of the fields behind and south of the parish rectory; Saturday from 3:00 to 5:00 pm and Sunday from 11:00 am to 1:30 pm.

Earth Day 2018- Plant a tree, catch some sun.

Plant a Tree

Some of the saplings--oak, white pine, norway spruce--will be planted near the north edge of the parish’s property line behind the pole barn. Others will be planted on the south end of the fields. If you can, please let Delaina Wilkin (delaina.wilkin@gmail.com) know if you can bring a shovel and some gloves to expedite the planting. The Creation Care Team is partnering with the SPX Knights of Columbus to provide trees, mulch, and garden hoses, but we can use more green thumbs—we’ve got hundreds of saplings to plant!

Catch Some Sun

Concurrently on the southeast end of the field, in the backyard of parishioner Dr. Phil Sakimoto, some solar industry pros will share their insight on installing solar panels. If you’ve ever thought about saving money and installing an array at your home, business or church, then this ought to pique your interest. Phil invites you to come by his backyard to see the panels, learn about the process, and ask any questions about solar—all strictly informal.

Please share this event with others, whether SPX parishioners or not. For those who wish to advocate for sustainable energy, and for decision makers who will need to make informed choices about solar implementation, this is a great local opportunity to come see what’s involved in erecting and benefiting from a solar array. Again, ask lots of questions.

Regular Meetings on April 12 & 26

Lastly, the CCT will hold its regular bi-weekly meeting this Thursday, April 12, 7:00-8:30 p.m. in PEC 216. If it’s been awhile since you weighed in on what the CCT and the parish are doing, we’d love to have you join us anew. Next meetings are April 26 and May 10.

Thanks for promoting, attending, supporting, and participating in the Creation Care Team’s endeavors. We believe that in caring for all of God’s creation, including our common home, we serve the poor, which Pope Francis eloquently stated in his encyclical Laudato Si.
