Eclipse Programs in St. Joseph County (IN) Libraries

Observers in northern Indiana will see over 95% of the sun obscured at mid-eclipse. Whether you are staying where the eclipse is partial or traveling to totality, you can prepare for the spectacle at St. Joseph County Public Library (SJCPL) branches.


Six eclipse programs are scheduled at SJCPL branches thus far:


The Solar Eclipse Spectacle - Presented by the Michiana Astronomical Society

Prepare for one of nature’s greatest spectacles. Discover what to expect and how to witness the solar eclipse safely. Totality is the sight of a lifetime! Recommended for ages 8 - 12.



What if the Sun Doesn’t Come Back? - Presented by the University of Notre Dame 

Wednesday, March 27: 6:30pm - 7:30pm

 Main Library - Community Learning Center - Leighton Auditorium

Dr. Philip J. Sakimoto, Professor of the Practice in Physics and Astronomy at the University of Notre Dame, will share what to expect and what to look for during the April 8 solar eclipse.  All ages.


Eclipses in Outer Space - Our Universe Revealed Series

Tuesday, April 02: 6:30pm - 7:30pm

 Main Library - Community Learning Center - Leighton Auditorium,Auditorium Lobby

One way to find planets around other stars in the universe is the eclipse transit method. Learn how Dr. Lauren Weiss uses observational techniques to discover exoplanets. Age group: Adults.


Great North American Eclipse Celebration

Monday, April 08: 1:30pm - 4:30pm

 Main Library - Community Learning Center - Richard Pfeil Family Courtyard,Leighton Auditorium,Auditorium Lobby

Watch the Great North American Eclipse from Main Library's courtyard. Enjoy yard games, music, crafts—and the eclipse, of course! All ages.
