Pathway to Ecological Citizenship & Spirituality

Act on science and faith when confronting modern climate realities. A free two-part workshop on September 11 & 18, 2024, teaches "how to launch the Vatican's Laudato Si' Action Platform in your diocese, parish, school, ministry, or organization." The Pathway to Ecological Citizenship and Spirituality seizes the groundwork of Laudato Si' written by Pope Francis to challenge the climate crisis in your community.

Part 2 on September 18 will be an in-person presentation at University of Notre Dame McKenna Conference Center. This is an excellent opportunity for parish leaders and members to discover the process of implementing a Laudato Si' Action Plan and to discern how and whether to proceed. No commitment is required of attendees. Please register at at https://bit.ly/ActionReg so ND can get a head count for food and beverages.

It's time to get our hands dirty and our globe clean. The Laudato Si' Action Platform "supports participants to develop tailored Laudato Si’ Action Plans to accomplish one purpose: Concrete actions to protect our common home." To be proactive in caring for creation, please register at https://bit.ly/CCC_AUSCP_EcologicalPathway.

  • A Scientific Perspective of Our Climate Crisis by Dr. Phil Sakimoto, University of Notre Dame

  • A Primer on the Vatican's Laudato Si' Action Platform by Dr. Christina Slentz, Diocese of San Diego

The two-part workshop is hosted by the Catholic Climate Covenant and the Association of US Catholic Priests. Together they introduce the seminal document by Pope Francis and the science of climate issues, and guide all individuals on how to organize a response in their respective circles of influence. Elements of the workshop are featured in the 2024 ND Forum at University of Notre Dame.

From Laudate Deum, pp. 70:

"...Yet what is important is something less quantitative: the need to realize that there are no lasting changes without cultural changes, without a maturing of lifestyles and convictions within societies, and there are no cultural changes without personal changes."
